But through it all Schlapp is focused on the mission at hand, working closely with White House's policy and legislative affairs teams and policy shops as well with the larger communications team in order to oversee policy implementations. Her focus so far has been on matters such as school safety, opioids, infrastructure, and trade. In her current position she doesn't deal extensively with journalists. But she drew a burst of attention in March when she was mentioned as a contender to replace Hope Hicks as communications director. There has been a lot of fighting. The allies of Schlapp and Tony Sayegh started arguing in the media. Schlapp said that after the Washington Examiner had published an article that had negative reviews of Sayegh's personality, she contacted Sayegh to have a private discussion.
